Laura Jacobson
Managing Partner/Attorney
Laura Jacobson is originally from rural Iowa, where learning her family’s own immigration stories sparked her interest in becoming an advocate for immigrants. She graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa with a double major in English and writing/rhetoric and a minor in Spanish. She graduated from William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia. At William & Mary, Laura founded the student organization “De Vecino a Vecino,” dedicated to serving the local Latino community through legal presentations and other volunteer activities. Laura was awarded William & Mary Law School’s Thurgood Marshall Award for distinguished public service.
Prior to co-founding L&L Immigration Law, PLLC, Laura worked as a staff attorney at Catholic Charities’ St. Frances Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance in Houston, Texas. Her work at Catholic Charities focused on assisting Cuban nationals and their families to obtain benefits under the Cuban Adjustment Act. She also provided presentations in Spanish for family members of unaccompanied children in removal proceedings.
Laura is fluent in Spanish. She has represented immigrants and their families before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) and Immigration Courts across the country. She has volunteered in Tijuana, Mexico, providing legal orientation to asylum seekers trapped in Mexico under the U.S. government’s recent, cruel policies. She has also volunteered in family detention centers in Artesia, New Mexico and Dilley, Texas, assisting detained women and children asylum seekers. Laura is licensed in Virginia and Texas, and she is also admitted to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
Laura resides in Washington, DC, with her husband, Alex, and their two unruly cats.
