There are also humanitarian options for relief available for individuals who meet specific criteria. For example, individuals who have been victims of certain crimes and have cooperated in the investigation of that crime may be eligible for U nonimmigrant status, also known as a “U visa”. Similarly, those who have suffered from human trafficking, including sex trafficking and labor trafficking may be eligible for T nonimmigrant status, or a “T visa”. Certain individuals who have been abused by a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident family member may qualify for protection under the Violence Against Women Act, or “VAWA”. Young people who came to the United States under the age of 16, before June 15, 2007, may qualify for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or “DACA”.
